7-Eleven Guide

Arrival Insights

7-Eleven guide

With more than 14,000 stores nationwide, 7-Eleven is part of daily life in Thailand—open 24 hours in most locations. For tourists it is a lifesaver: cold drinks, decent hot meals, SIM top-ups, bill payment, and ATMs, often within a few minutes’ walk of your hotel.

What tourists buy most

  • Water and electrolytes: Large bottles are cheap; try Pocari Sweat or Gatorade after hot days.
  • Snacks: Onigiri (rice balls), sandwiches, grilled sausages, and local chips.
  • Ready meals: Staff will microwave fried rice, curries, and noodles for you.
  • Sunscreen, mosquito repellent, toiletries—travel-size if you forgot to pack.
  • Phone chargers, adapters, umbrellas—handy in rain season.
  • Alcohol (during permitted sales hours only; legal age 20)—see alcohol laws.

SIM top-up and mobile services

Many 7-Elevens sell AIS and True tourist SIM packs and can top up prepaid numbers—tell staff your phone number and amount (e.g. 100 THB). Receipts help if data does not activate immediately. For full SIM options, see our SIM card guide.

Bill payment and services counter

At the counter you can pay utility bills, some online purchases, and buy bus tickets at selected stores. Useful if you need a quick cash service without visiting a bank. Small service fees may apply.

ATM and cash

Most branches have ATMs (often Krung Thai or other banks). Foreign cards usually work; your home bank may charge withdrawal fees. Decline dynamic currency conversion (pay in THB, not your home currency).

Local tips

  • TrueMoney and other e-wallet top-ups are available at many stores.
  • Slurping hot noodles at the in-store bench is totally normal.
  • Receipts are always offered—useful for expense tracking.
  • FamilyMart and Lotus’s Go Fresh are similar alternatives if 7-Eleven is crowded.

FAQ

Can I pay with credit card?
Most urban 7-Elevens accept cards and mobile pay for purchases over minimum amounts (often 100+ THB).

Is 7-Eleven food safe?
High turnover means fresh stock; choose items that look recently stocked and heated thoroughly.

Do all stores sell SIM cards?
Many do, but airport and operator shops have more plan choices.
